The good bit!

As if I didn't have enough projects on the go, 1 of the 2 kick starters i backed last year has reached the good bit.

It's all very nice, but I can't help thinking, why did I back this, I have too much to paint already!

Joking aside it's very good and I will put up new posts as I go through it.

Half of the order is still being made but most of the miniatures and the rules are here.

It's all for All quiet on the Martian front. I liked the look of it so thought why not. I am just glad that it arrived. I also backed a KS for sails of glory, however it got hijacked by customs, who never told me, then when they did there website went down, so I could not pay the £25 charge.
After frantic emailing etc, it got lost, and now we think it's been returned to the states. This means I am out of pocket to the tune £120. Therefore, never again will I back an overseas based KS.

At least this one turned out ok.

orks pt2

the flames of war troops have been neglected, completely lost my painting mojo.
however, it has meant a little work on non painting projects. the recently purchased figures from critical mass have been based or glued to sticks for prep work, and the 15mm orks have had a bit more work and a slight rethink.

i want to go more in the direction of classic rogue trader artwork for these guys so after a lot of internet searching and saving pics for reference work is finally starting.

this is what i am hoping to achieve with them,

or this

so after looking at various sources i found these guys

poor pic from the company website but other than there only being 2 poses these are a brilliant starting point for conversion or sculpting.

heres a pic of the start of some alterations

not much yet, just some boots for the barefooted figures, a start on the lovely block shaped boltguns they will carry, and most importantly lots of odd shaped hats, which seemed to be an ork fetish of the mid eighties going by the pics!

Black Pyjamas

Well i have to get back to the PAVN, the orks or any other random post are just whims i follow from time to time.
So, next up is the local forces that can be chosen to support the paid soldiers, this is as far as they have been painted so far, hoping to get them finished up to tabletop standard by the weekend.

sorry for the poor pics, guess ipads arent as good as they say they are :)

Waaaagh Orks

last year i picked up a copy of criticalmass games rules. i have since played a few times with the rules and i can say they are fun, not complex and once you get the hang of it, very quick.

so after this i built and painted an army of near future human types for the rules. the whole time i painted them i couldnt help but think they had a look and feel of the Tallarn from the 40k universe.

this then led me to thinking, i want an opponent for them, who do i pick, well the obvious choice...Orks.

Ok where to start, well the infantry or boyz i know where i am getting them from, so what else do i want.

first off i thought about leaders or Nobz, so in a recent order i got a unit of these

now they dont look very Orky, but they are bigger than the boyz and very heavily armoured and armed which suits the role of the biggest orks.
these will have headswaps and bits added to ork them up a bit. so far only the haeds have been done.

so thats how there looking just now, next up will be the tanks, some will be scratchbuilt as im hoping to find the old white dwarf plans for the old ork wagons.
the rest will be kitbash with lots of rivetted plate added to hide the original model.

Tet offensive

Quick update on the PAVN, almost finished, just a few bits of bush and elephant grass to add before a Matt varnish spray.
208 infantry in only 10 hours, yes they are a bit rough, but there's so many I doubt anyone will notice ha ha.

The main infantry force

Gun teams and command.

Bunker!

Also in between all the infantry I got side tracked again and painted these little guys

Some really old GW epic scale robots, these May or may not be used in a game of epic or something micro armour.

And a big Harumph to Stevie Mid, see you've finally started following my ramblings.

New project

It's been busy round here lately so not a lot of painting going on. The panzerwerfer got finished but I won't take pics till the final coat of varnish goes on.
Next up is the PAVN for flames of war. 76 medium bases, 10 small bases and 1 as yet unbuilt platoon.
Slightly more than the paras but less detailing to do. This could take some time!

A small selection of the horde.

And how I want them to turn out.

See y'all soon.

The year ahead

Well in between all the recent activity I have had a few moments to ponder where the brush goes next.
I have also decided what will go to other homes as I have too many projects and not enough time.
Hordes and uncharted seas have been binned, the former for financial reasons, the latter as I haven't enjoyed a single game of it!.

I will continue with the ridiculous challenge that is my collection of 15mm ww2 purely as I really enjoy painting them and like the look of the games in this scale. Which rules I use is another matter, it's FoW at the moment but I have a home brew set of rules that are fun and have looked at many others.

The 15mm mongol army has received some reinforcements so it will be revisited shortly. It can be used for many systems, my favourite being war master, but also impetus.

In 28mm I have many choices but I think the TAG Chinese may go. I have never gotten to grips with it and it may be a popular seller.

The curteys Chinese I picked up will be getting built, it's a cracking looking army with chariots and foot, big ostentatious banners etc. it's one I'm looking forward too.

My beloved celts/Gauls, what can I say, these are the reason I started historical gaming. There's a lot of work still to do on them but the finished article will look amazing.

Dark ages British. I don't know if I will build this one or not. Lots of current players have this already or similar, can't decide, one for the back burner.

Perry twins plastic figures. I have a box of these as I just wanted a dozen or so figures, but I can't help thinking it could be the start of yet another army.

Vikings, yet another started project that never got off the ground. I have painted up about 20 and can't decide where to go now.

20mm Germans, this one I'm really stuck with. I have some plastics and some cracking metal models but I can't get started. The desire to paint them just isn't happening, time for pastures new maybe.

6mm sci fi, loads of this but no one plays epic! It's only bonus being it doesn't take up much room. Another non decision there then.

So a few will go and a few will get done, no more new stuff getting bought as I'm still waiting on 2 kick starters from last year to start shipping the goods I've already paid for!

To round off, looks like the busiest part of my little hobby this year will be my poor brushes and the sellers enclosure in eBay.

Who knows, this time next year I may have them all done LoL
