The painting challenge has really spurred me on to get the forgotten miniatures and projects pushed forward.
This is my entry for the bonus round BFG(big freakin gun).
It is my scratch built Ork Gobsmasha gun tank, which certainly has a big freakin gun. This has been an idea i have had for a while. I first built one out of card with coffee jar lid wheels when plans for it were published in White Dwarf probably late 80's, when they did cool stuff like that.
This model was built using plasticard cut to size to be roughly 15mm scale, as i have no intention of making it 28mm, my 40k will be 15mm. The wheels were made by scratch building one wheel using spare round bases and plasticard, then making a rubber mould and casting them in resin. The crew ladder was a spare part from an abandoned railway carriage model kit, the exhaust is a barrel in halves with plasticard tubing out the top. Top hatches are left over from various kits.
A simple paint job, some Orky decals and light weathering and its done.
The build was done pre-challenge, and it has sat in an undercoated state for around a year.
To show its size, i painted 1 Skinnerz biker from Vanguard miniatures on a 40mm by 20mm base. If time allows i may paint more to get my points up.
Thank you for looking.

I want lots of them
A small post tonight about my wheels.
This is mainly because of a conversation with a another gamer about the process, so i thought i would share a picture of the main ingredients and write a little about the process.
In the picture can be seen the 2 moulds on the left and next to the model are the original constructed wheels and the cast models.
Both original wheels were made in the same way, effectively 2 round bases seperated by a piece of blu tac at the desired width. then carefully cut some plasticard strips to slightly wider than this and glue them around the outside lip of the bases.
Finally use a small disc or spare shield or buckler to place in the centre of 1 base and apply really thin strips of plasticard to represent spokes.
Both of the moulds were made by blu tacing the wheel spoke side up to the bottom of a plastic cup or spray can lid, applying aerosol release agent, and pouring in the liquid latex.
Likewise the resin i use is just cheap 2 part resin, to which i deliberately add more hardener than is recommended so it sets faster.
Bye for now.

orks pt2
however, it has meant a little work on non painting projects. the recently purchased figures from critical mass have been based or glued to sticks for prep work, and the 15mm orks have had a bit more work and a slight rethink.
i want to go more in the direction of classic rogue trader artwork for these guys so after a lot of internet searching and saving pics for reference work is finally starting.
this is what i am hoping to achieve with them,
or this
so after looking at various sources i found these guys
poor pic from the company website but other than there only being 2 poses these are a brilliant starting point for conversion or sculpting.
heres a pic of the start of some alterations
not much yet, just some boots for the barefooted figures, a start on the lovely block shaped boltguns they will carry, and most importantly lots of odd shaped hats, which seemed to be an ork fetish of the mid eighties going by the pics!R

Waaaagh Orks
last year i picked up a copy of criticalmass games rules. i have since played a few times with the rules and i can say they are fun, not complex and once you get the hang of it, very quick.
so after this i built and painted an army of near future human types for the rules. the whole time i painted them i couldnt help but think they had a look and feel of the Tallarn from the 40k universe.
this then led me to thinking, i want an opponent for them, who do i pick, well the obvious choice...Orks.
Ok where to start, well the infantry or boyz i know where i am getting them from, so what else do i want.
first off i thought about leaders or Nobz, so in a recent order i got a unit of these
now they dont look very Orky, but they are bigger than the boyz and very heavily armoured and armed which suits the role of the biggest orks.
these will have headswaps and bits added to ork them up a bit. so far only the haeds have been done.
so thats how there looking just now, next up will be the tanks, some will be scratchbuilt as im hoping to find the old white dwarf plans for the old ork wagons.
the rest will be kitbash with lots of rivetted plate added to hide the original model.
